So, I got married with the preconception that this whole “feeding each other” thing would be a mutual endeavor. Then I realized I was wrong. THEN I realized that I don’t know how to cook anything that doesn’t come out of a box. I mean don’t get me wrong. I can boil water and set the oven temperature and all that fancy stuff. I’m just not one of those women that prance around in they’re kitchen saying aloud “Hm, which of my grandmother’s recipes will I select from my betty crocker homemade cookbook to embark upon for supper today at 4 pm?” How does one compile a recipe repertoire? We’ve been married for over a year now, and I can list here from memory every meal I’ve ever cooked. Hamburger Helper (of several varieties) Baked chicken Fried chicken (without the skin and breading and all that of course) Shells and Cheese (with the occassional addition of chicken, broccolli, or hamburger meat and rotel) Fried rice (minute rice in the microwave, fried egg, fried chicken pieces, and a bag of mixed vegetables, with all the marinade/soy-sauce-esk liquids in the pantry fried up together) Frozen Pizza Delivered Pizza rewarmed in the oven Spaghetti Quick Chili (chili powder mix in a bag, canned tomatoes/sauce, fried hamburger, canned chili beans, water) Sloppy Joes Chicken Quesadillas Fajitas from the frozen section I’m pretty sure that’s it. It makes for an easy-to-remember shopping list, but to be frank I’m just as tired of eating it over and over as I am of cooking it. I can only imagine what lies behind my husband’s “It’s great honey” smile each night. What do young married couples eat? I’m not looking to produce homemade pasta and gourmet meals every night, but I could use some suggestions on some new and creative material. That being said, I’m a picky eater. I don’t like things like peppers or cucumber, zucchini, large chunks of tomato or anything like that. And I can tolerate a very small amount of spice. If everyone could share a recipe or two, I’d be greatful :)
